CSS3: it makes the lives of web designers easier and creates a lighter initial load footprint, right? In a perfect world, sure, but when web designers are still required to compensate for IE7 and IE9 not having much CSS3 support, these handy advances in web technology are quite neutered.

The Value of Online Business

While it is quite common to hear stories about how the internet complements or enhances a business' overall operation, it is less common to hear about a business that was built from the ground up around its online presence. But such is the case with Purchase Green, an artificial grass distributor that literally started with nothing more than a domain name and, in two short years, has developed one of the largest distribution networks in the United States.

When the owners of Purchase Green acquired the domain in 2008, it already possessed the #1 organic ranking in Google for the term "artificial grass." Shortly thereafter, the phones began ringing ... that keyphrase was driving thousands of visits each month from consumers and contractors who all had one thing in common: they were looking to purchase product, and assumed that the top-ranking site would be able to satisfy that need.

The new owners of the domain were ill-equipped to facilitate any requests of that nature. But recognizing the potential, one of them took the initiative and began contacting turf manufacturers and began constructing a business plan on how they could capitalize upon the newly acquired asset. Fast forward a few months later, and the group had formed a relationship with a foreign manufacturer, received a small equity investment that funded the first inventory purchase and rented a small warehouse to store product.

This was the beginning of a business that, two years later, has expanded to four west coast brick-and-mortar locations and has posted aggressive growth rates. The internet has not driven all of Purchase Green's success, but it did provide the foundation upon which sweat-equity and good fortune has built a successful business.

A truly amazing story!
