Neutralizing Price Objections: A Custom ROI Calculator for High-Performance Mining Abrasives
A high-performance mining abrasives provider kept losing deals. Procurement teams balked at the 400% price premium over generic slag.
We built a custom "TruCost Calculator" and integrated it with HubSpot to neutralize price objections. It quantifies hidden disposal and productivity costs. It also shifts the conversation to total project ROI.
Executive Summary
Context
A global garnet supplier struggling to justify a 400% price premium over commodity slag. Sales teams were losing deals because they lacked a standardized way to prove the long-term productivity gains and reduced waste management costs of their product.
What We Built
We built a custom "TruCost" calculator. We hosted it on HubSpot landing pages. A backend logic engine produces project-specific ROI reports for industrial buyers.
Tech Stack
- HubSpot Landing Pages
- HubSpot Marketing Hub (Workflows & EDM)
- Engaging.io (Custom Logic Backend)
Not a fit for low-stakes commodity products or companies where the buyer journey does not involve a "total cost of ownership" (TCO) evaluation.
The Challenge
The marketing team’s "value" messaging didn’t match the sales team’s pricing friction. Prospective buyers in the "Blast" and "Waterjet" segments stayed anchored to the low price of slag.
The tool had to handle complex variable inputs: nozzle speed, substrate type, regional disposal fees. It still had to stay user-friendly for a landing page. The calculation data also had to flow back into HubSpot, so it could trigger automated, persona-specific follow-up sequences that reinforced the ROI findings.
Our Approach
We built the "TruCost Calculator" as a middle-of-the-funnel (MOFU) asset. We chose Engaging.io for the backend infrastructure, since it could handle the heavy mathematical lifting that standard HubSpot forms couldn’t process.
We had to choose which variable would carry the argument, and we picked "Disposal Costs." Cheaper slags produce 5x the waste volume of garnet, so we turned a disposal liability into a competitive advantage for the higher-priced product. Two specific EDM (Email Direct Mail) sequences, triggered in HubSpot, then nurtured users based on their specific calculation results.
Impact
Neutralized Price Friction
The sales team got a verified technical tool. It pivots conversations from unit price to long-term operational ROI.
Qualified MOFU Pipeline
The calculator is a high-intent conversion point. Buyers land there evaluating project costs and productivity metrics.
Persona-Driven Nurturing
Automated EDM sequences now speak to "Blast" and "Waterjet" buyers. Each gets messaging tuned to its specific technical needs.
Enhanced Data Capture
The calculator captures project data on consumption rates and disposal volumes. Standard lead profiles used to miss this.
We used Engaging.io to host the calculation logic. That kept complex industrial math from compromising landing page performance or Core Web Vitals.
We built logic that outputs project-specific ROI summaries based on user inputs. It gives procurement teams a tangible "Proof of Value" document.
HubSpot workflows branch leads based on their calculator inputs. "Waterjet" prospects get different nurturing content than "Blast" prospects do.
We linked calculator activity to the centralized reporting dashboards. That tracks how interactive engagement lines up with MQL-to-SQL progress.
A custom interactive calculator integrated with HubSpot to neutralize price objections during the procurement process. It programmatically quantifies hidden disposal and productivity costs, shifting the buyer conversation away from generic product pricing and toward total project ROI and long-term value.
FAQ
We use a decoupled architecture. The heavy calculation logic runs on a specialized backend, like Engaging.io, while HubSpot Landing Pages act as the interface. Data pushes into the CRM via API, so the site stays fast while still delivering enterprise-grade logic.
Yes. The calculator is a mobile-responsive HubSpot asset, so sales reps can run live ROI simulations during site visits or sales calls. That gives them an immediate, data-backed response to "it’s too expensive" objections.
